City Diaries

Jamil, a young office worker in Dhaka, encounters a series of unexpected encounters on his way to work. From street kids demanding money to a hijra seeking help, Jamil navigates these encounters with skepticism. Later, faced with a man claiming his wife's death, Jamil initially dismisses him as a fraud. However, he discovers the truth at the hospital, leading to a heavy-hearted realization. To make amends, Jamil helps the man and, in a surprising turn, finds companionship with a flower seller, culminating in a blossoming connection as they walk hand in hand.

Director Biography - Sadman Shahriar Shihir


Sadman Shahriar also known as Sadman Shihir is a Bangladeshi young Film Student, Activist and Organizer. He is a student of Film and Television, Jagannath University. He’s the founder and President of Bangladesh Film Students’ Association. He is also the President of Jagannath University Film Club, He is associated with many film related activities. “City Diaries” is his debut film, He made it as a part of his academic course.

Director Statement

The story revolves around Dhaka, a bustling city where people from all walks of life coexist in their busy routines. Jamil, the main character, embodies the urban lifestyle, absorbed in his career. The city streets are filled with individuals earning a living through various means, yet there's a prevailing indifference to their struggles. Jamil, like others, tends to avoid these less fortunate individuals.

However, a turning point comes when Jamil realizes the impact of a small act of compassion. The narrative suggests that if the affluent classes showed empathy, the lower classes might fare better and not feel neglected. The movie's final scene conveys the message that friendship can bridge the gap between the rich and the marginalized, transcending differences.
