”Citizen love”. The unknown story of Anna and Grzegorz Ciechowski.
After years of silence, a film has been made, in which Anna tells the love and life story of the frontman of the legendary band Republika. It is a very personal and emotional film about big love, love that was born and lasted against all odds. The film is a kind of guide to how to better understand the artist’s work. It talks about the story behind and reasons for many songs.
The previously unpublished photos and home videos that are used in the film show the artist in a new light. We see Grzegorz as the head of the family, a father and a husband. Finally, this story helps us better understand the choices he made in life.
The film “Citizen love” is the missing element from a jigsaw puzzle with the slogan “Republika and Ciechowski”.
Anna was the wife of Grzegorz Ciechowski – founder of the legendary band Republika, also known as Obywatel GC (Citizen GC). Their romance started when she was 19 and he was 31.
After the premature death of the artist, who died in 2001 at the age of just 44, she became the sole heiress. Until today, “Republika matters” have been the object of never-ending disputes. Anna ended up in the middle of it all, often ruthlessly and mercilessly attacked. She consistently kept quiet.
Film
In 2018 she decided to appear in front of a camera held by her current husband, Wojciech Skrobiszewski. The film is his debut as a director, he had no budget, nor did he have any professional equipment or a big team, but from the very beginning he had Love inside of him.
Anna’s story unravels an unknown part of Grzegorz Ciechowski’s life story, not as a musician but as a person looking for ordinary warmth and comfort of home, a person who did not think twice about paying a big price for that. But Anna paid a similar, if not bigger, price.
While watching the film, look at “Citizen” as an emotional story of the love between a man and a woman filmed almost two decades later by another man who loves the same woman.
This film is sincere, which is the most important element in documentary cinematography.
