XR Museum: Our Lady of Nazaré, Amazon, Brazil
Virtual Reality can transport you anywhere. Join us in a trip to the North of Brazil where Belém, capital of Pará, in the heart of Amazon, every year, becomes the capital of faith while hosting the largest sequence of processions dedicated to Our Lady Mary of Nazareth, the Mother of Jesus in the Catholic Church.
The celebration incorporates numerous cultural elements that reflect Brazil’s multicultural society, including Amazonian culture and cuisine, and crafts such as toys made of local palm wood. The blending of the sacred and the profane gives this event religious, aesthetic, touristic, social and cultural dimensions.
Cirio is recognized by UNESCO as Humanitie's Intangible Cultural Heritage. The entire city virtually engages on all Cirio events and a vast number of pilgrims travel from across Brazil and other countries just to attend what is one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.
For many, the Círio is an annual homecoming; a family time similar to Christmas. A time to be thankful resembling Thanksgiving, but set in the streets, surrounded my millions of true believers proudly showing their love and devotion to the blessed Virgin Mary Immaculate Heart. 2.5 million pilgrims follow the statue of Mary for 3.6 KM (2.2 miles), every second Sunday for October, for more than 227 years. Other 11 processions take the statue of our Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, on a ride among cities nearby Belém by feet, bicycle, motorcycle, car and even by boat!
Sail through the Amazon rivers surrounded by hundreds of boats, piggyback on a motorcycle ride and feel what's like to be side by side with 2.5 million people in this very unique celebration of faith and thankfulness. It is common to see people carrying plaster pieces representing a vehicle, a home or even a body part. These are objects representing someone's faith that Our Lady's intercession was fundamental on achieving such object or cure.

ABOUT THE VIRTUAL REALITY APP:
We created our own app, dressed as a next-gen digital museum featuring several historical objects - photo realistically scanned using photogrammetry - in addition a vast number of short 360 videos of all tributes performed live at the procession. Subject matter specialists comment on all sacred items and we even worked with local curators and interviewed experienced Cirio photographers. All to deliver the very best immersive experience possible.
Experience all cultural aspects of this multimedia presentation in a non-linear, next generation Digital Museum setup, exhibiting exclusive virtual and augmented reality content captured at the event since 2016. 2019 marks the 4th consecutive year of a team of volunteers capturing all processions using various virtual reality cameras and scanning devices for bringing real assets into the Digital Museum Of Círio de Nazareth.
All digital assets were scanned at Shrine's museum Memory of Nazareth located at Casa de Placido, steps away from the Sanctuary where the original statue was found by Placido. Learn all about this magnificent story over a digital museum framework that enables access via all VR devices and is also available on iOS and Android with modules made for Augmented Reality. We sincerely hope this will inspire other Museums to have a Digital presence in order to democratize access and Culture to everyone, regardless of their physical location or ability to sponsor an international trip.
On the technology side, Simulated Reality LLC - A Los Angeles based entertainment company and Delta Studios Inc - a production house set in Belem, partner on bringing the latest and greatest technologies to immerse you at the event like never before. Our special access to such vast cultural content inspired the creation this Digital Museum, which we hope to receive funding to bring it to mobile devices completely free for everyone.
Please download the working demo app(s) and share with friends. We have versions available for iOS and Android, with support for Google cardboard and most common VR/AR headsets such as Oculus Quest, HTC VIVE Focus and any STEAM VR compatible PC VR headset.
Please join us on this journey to help us find a distributor interested in worldwide rights.

Danilo has been living in the intersection of movies and games since he moved to LA 10+ years ago as R&D for Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City. While at Sony, for about 8 years, Danilo promoted Columbia Pictures movies on PlayStation. Danilo left in early 2015 to work on new technologies and VR platforms. Carlos Waldney is an experienced advertising entrepreneur with over two decades as an executive producer, having also directed more than 450 TV spots. Carlos was the first Brazilian to graduate at NYFA - New York Film Academy - in VR Narrative. Carlos also directed "Portraits of Faith", the first hybrid VR documentary recorded simultaneously in 360 video and flat video in Brazil. In 2016 Carlos and Danilo co-founded the project Círio360. Our mission is to immerse audiences into the biggest Catholic festivity in the world, like never before.
We create art and tell stories by digitizing content using all media formats, from volumetric capture, binaural audio, photogrammetry and 360 video. Each technology has it's use and in this museum we are combining all in a very artistic interpretation of real life events. We believe we are marching towards a revolution in the way content is created for the new connected generation.
The perfect storm is coming. It's time to focus on volumetric solutions for an amazing simulated reality, where we can feel like we can be anywhere we want, when we want it.
