Cinequest has been voted Best Film Festival by USA Today Readers. Cinequest programs 85-90% of its festival from paid submissions annually, one of the highest percentages of the world's most influential film festivals.

"I think the most important thing about Cinequest is it's definitely the first time I've ever come to a festival where my immediate reaction is, 'What do I have to do to be invited back?' and that's not normally my reaction. It's a perfect film festival in a glorious place." - Neil Gaiman, Maverick Spirit Award Winner

Cinequest connects artists, innovators, media, and audiences—as people converge to experience a potent mix of immersive stories from around the globe and breakthrough technologies. Yet, Cinequest’s stellar reputation not only hinges on its knack for creating a powerful line-up, but also for securing distribution for many of its honored filmmakers. Netflix, IFC Films, Amazon, MSNBC Films, Roadside Attractions, 1091 Pictures, Oscilloscope, Sony Pictures, Magnolia Pictures, Kino-Lorber, eOne, Lionsgate, PBS, and HBO are just a few of the many that have signed deals with some of Cinequest's success stories.

As an Academy-qualifying festival for the short film categories, Cinequest is proud to honor the winners of its Best Short Narrative and Best Short Animation prizes with a shot at every filmmaker's dream...Oscar gold.

Exhibiting unique social and artistic visions from around the globe, Cinequest’s dynamic festival engages audiences in thought-provoking dialogue, giving film artists and film lovers alike an opportunity to connect. Furthermore, Cinequest provides cutting edge technology and movie-making forums to empower professionals and students.

"This festival is one that sets the trends and is actually ahead of the trends. Other festivals are copying Cinequest; I see it all the time."-- Chris Gore (Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide)

“What unites them all under the festival’s big tent is clear: Being a part of Cinequest is not to follow industry trends, but to witness the moment they’re being set.”-- MovieMaker (Max Weinstein)

  • Cinequest is an extraordinary festival. We held back on releasing Tim Travers in the time travelers paradox for several months until we knew we had a really great place to world premiere, and Cinequest was well worth the wait! A fantastic, supportive community, a huge number of dynamic filmmakers to meet, and an eye-popping venue to screen at.

Also, they say you are only as good as the company you keep, and the company of films in this festival was mind-boggling really good. Everyone should check out Cinequest!

We had a great time at Cinequest. From the offset there was great communication from the festival with how to get our film sent over, how to connect with the festival publicity and all sorts of bits and bobs.

Once we arrived, we were taken aback with how dedicated the staff and volunteers were to putting on a fantastic film festival. There was Nick at the door of the Artists' Lounge to make us feel welcome, and who diligently ensured that everyone was connected and nobody was left to themselves.

Our screening took place in the Hammer Theatre, where the screen was huge. We had a good crowd in attendance despite being in competition with a feature film with a well known star, and our Q+A was well prepared and gave equal opportunities for everyone on stage to participate.

There are many other good parts of the festival, not least the fact we got to discover San Jose as a city. Thank you for the opportunity, and we certainly recommend Cinequest to anyone looking for a transformative festival experience.

  • Attending Cinequest has forever changed the way I view film festivals. We couldn't be happier that our series 'And Cut!' had it's world premiere here. It was an immense honour.

Cinequest is by far the best and definitely the coolest festival I have attended. The programmers are ever-present and extremely warm, and they go out of their way to make sure it remains a filmmaker first fest. The community and bonds that you build at Cinequest with filmmakers from all over the world is just another bonus. Not to mention the sheer variety of incredible films.

I hope to attend again soon! Highly recommend.

This is an excellent festival, so impressed with the communication and support. Due to work I was unable to attend in person so have not given stars about the networking, but from the socials it looked great. The online support was great. I am so proud to have our film screened at such a festival along such amazing films. I hope very much to screen there again.
