Cinderella, Interrupted
Growing up in a small Midwestern town in the 1980s and 90s, lesbians were mythical creatures found on Cinemax and in tabloids. There was no way that *I* could be one. I liked fairy tales and romantic comedies. I wasn’t a villain (that I knew of). I didn’t even live in a city.
Then, Ellen came out on ABC.
Featuring interviews with academics, actors, and, most importantly, viewers on whom media had a powerful impact, Cinderella, Interrupted tells a story of representation – how much it matters, the effect it has on us, the worlds that it can open, and the ones it has tried to close.
