Graduating from WAAPA with a Diploma in Set Construction and Properties, he went on to work in the industry behind the scenes for a few years, but feeling he was not close enough to the camera, Ryan decided to turn his hand to writing instead.
Since then he has written, produced, directed and acted in many of his own amateur works from shorts, features, short stories and even drafted two novels (as yet unpublished). One of his works, a fan film ‘The Last Ankh’ (credit: writer), was nominated for the 2022 WA Made Film Festival and he has also sat in on several writers rooms for Screen West funded projects.
Of late he has set up Scripts & Sips events, which connects local writers and actors in a fun networking and creative space.
His main genres of passion are horror and comedy as he feels they have a very similar style and flow. He places a big focus on character, heavily interwoven narratives and world building. He also likes to keep Australia and all its many facets and faces as a prominent backdrop to most of his storylines.
'We've had the most amazingly fun time filming and producing Christmas Orphans over the last year. The cast and crew gave it their all and together we think we've created a laugh out loud Aussie comedy that captures the very heart of Christmas from a truly unique perspective. Be great to get it in front of a larger audience.'
