Kevin Elliott Chrisney is a first time filmmaker, with this short documentary being their first film! As a Detroit, Michigan local, Kevin's plays and sketches have been seen on stage at the Planet Ant Theatre and at the Detroit Repertory Theater.
Chrisney is a character study of a small town in Southern
Indiana that is framed with the last road trip between the descendant of its namesake and their deceased father. The documentary introduces some of the citizens- stakeholders, retirees, and homebuilders- as they tell their story and that of the town.
This town has always been a part of our family lore, and after moving from California to Michigan I was the closest my family has ever been to the town since my great-great grandfather moved to Oklahoma City as an '89er. For this film I wanted to capture the nature of the town and its residents to posit against my own life and that of my late father- who is also a Chrisney. I explored this through local interviews, B-Roll of the town, and music inspired by bluegrass; the Bluegrass Hall of Fame is only 20 minutes away from Chrisney and was my dad's favorite music.
