Chrismoose Carol 1919
It's the pandemic and the theatre is closed.
During the downtime at the theatre we’ve been organizing our archives and came across an old dusty box with the words “Lime Rickey” scrawled across the top. Inside we found a treasure trove of cool stuff, including an old film reel from 1919—at the end of the Spanish Flu—with what appears to be the very first recording of ‘Chrismoose Carol’.
We finished restoring the film and we were correct, it is the very first ‘Chrismoose Carol’ which inspired all other versions that followed.

Behind Paywall as Fundraiser
Deborah Iozzi is the manager of The Loose Moose Theatre Company based in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Over many bountiful years, she has directed a myriad of stage plays, but never a film project -- until now.
With doors firmly closed on live theatre for the past year we were looking for ways to bring our particular brand of theatre to the world in a way that kept everyone safe.
Every year we've done a unique, genre-bending stage version of our take on the Charles Dickens classic we call 'Chrismoose Carol'. It just made sense to 'find' an old film cannister from the pandemic of 1919, dust it off and 'restore' what could be the very first Carol -- a silent film shot during the last pandemic.
I was blessed with the opportunity to explore a foray into film. Thankfully I was working with people who knew what they were doing, and guided me gently into a hybrid of what I know and love from the stage into a new and magical world of film.
