Director Biography - Daniel David Newman, Soriya Khorn

Having made films and led tours in Asia for more than 13 years, Soriya Khorn and Daniel Newman have long since been looking to shoot a short film set against the backdrop of the legendary Angkor Wat. So when they discovered that the penultimate King of the Khmer Empire was poisoned by one of his own concubines, they felt they'd found the perfect story with which to show the full scope of 14th century Cambodia.

导演简介： 丹尼尔·纽曼 (Daniel Newman) 在亚洲制作电影并旅居已超过 13 年，他长期以来一直希望拍摄一部以富有传奇色彩的柬埔寨吴哥窟为背景的短片。在偶然中，他从文献中得知高棉帝国的一位王君死于妃子之手，借此契机，他产生了创作本片的灵感。

Director Statement

Films so often romanticise the idea of relationships between concubines and their rulers, so we wanted to do the complete opposite and show just how brutal an experience many suffered at the hands of imperial regimes.

Many Khmer Kings had as many as 2,000 concubines, so it's foolish to think that they would all have been well treated by the Kings that they served under. In this film we've therefore tried to convey what really happened when a woman was transported to a Royal Palace and found herself offered up to a tyrannical ruler.

Like our previous short film, 'After The March', we wanted to show a patriarchal system through the eyes of a young woman who manages to bring about change. We hope we'll therefore be able to turn this short proof-of-concept into a feature film so that Chantrea will be able to get her revenge and poison her merciless King.

影视剧作经常将妃嫔和君王之间的关系浪漫化，但我想反其道而行之，展示女性在帝国政权手中所遭受的残酷经历。

许多高棉族国王拥有多达 2,000 名妃子，人民常常错误地认为君王会尊重和怜惜所有女性。在这部电影中，我尝试刻画一位女孩被骗入后宫，惨遭侵犯的悲哀经历，揭露那个时代的君王暴虐行径。

就像我的短片《游行之后》一样，我想通过一位富有变革精神的年轻女性的视角来展示父权制度。因此，我希望能够将此理念变成一部故事片，其中受害者女性 Chantrea 能够对残暴
的国王展开复仇。
