Writer Statement

As a journalist, I take inspiration from real life to tell stories about ordinary people who do extraordinary things. As a woman over 40, I write about the under-represented: diverse protagonists who are finding their voice and taking control of their own destinies.

I have a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, and I've always been an information sponge. I'm driven to do exhaustive research and countless rewrites on each project, to try to tell the most compelling story from a unique, yet universal perspective.

I've wanted to be a screenwriter for almost two decades, but it wasn’t until two years ago, after raising my three children--that I was finally able to pursue my passion full-time.

My upbringing as a farmer’s daughter from Iowa developed my Midwestern work ethic, my experiences living as an expat in Paris for three years have given me a global perspective, and my hard-won independence fuels my tireless drive.

I've spent the past two years writing, learning, networking, taking classes and workshops, attending film festivals and writers’ conferences, re-writing and writing on assignment.
