Children of the Sun, Keep It Up

The Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples passed by the United Nations in 2007 reiterates and defines the ownership rights of the Indigenous Peoples to their own lives, and unique cultural identity. In addition, It "prohibits discrimination against indigenous peoples," and "promotes their full and effective participation in all matters that concern them and their right to pursue their own visions of economic and social development"

The government’s discriminatory policies, wars, profit-seeking politicians, and capitalistic exploitation forced indigenous peoples to leave their traditional homes and territories. Social marginalization and discriminatory laws violate indigenous individuals and collective rights easily and often.

Over the past 4 centuries, the Dutch, the Spanish, the Qing Chinese, the Japanese, and the KMT came to Taiwan. The Japanese seized massive land from the indigenous peoples. Then the R.O.C. (TAIWAN) government followed suit and continued to remove the indigenous peoples from their land which made detrimental damage to their economy and culture.

In response to the world in constant flux, we had to change with the situation. As the children of the sun, we had never forgotten our ancestors’ teachings that we need to share our joy, help each other, and remember our origin. No matter where we are, whenever we sing and dance with full force, our village is always present. The precious culture we inherited will never be lost, but present in different formats.
