Charmaine & Her Best Good Friend
A documentary about making the choice between a longer life or a better life.
‘Charmaine & Her Best Good Friend’ documents the first ever gift given by Sick Boy Podcast’s SickWish - a Canadian foundation that grants sick adults a wish similar to Reach for A Dream for children. When Charmaine found out she had won, her wish was simple. She wanted to spend time with her best good friend, to give her a view of the great wide world and impart all the knowledge, education and love she could pack into two weeks. This is a film about that wish and their amazing adventure in Africa, about strangers and the kindness they show each other, and about a love that will last longer than one lifetime.

Tamarin Gerriety is a filmmaker living in Johannesburg, South Africa. Tam, as she is more commonly known, is the Founder of Documinute - an online, 1-minute documentary project. In November 2018 she was featured on Humans of New York and life kind of blew up a bit...but in the best way. Tam has dreamt of being a documentary filmmaker for the longest time and after getting frustrated with how long saving up for film school was taking, she just decided to skip the specialised training and just start filming. Tam is also a freelance Producer, Director, and Editor working in the production industry in Johannesburg, and has 12 years of experience behind her.
‘Charmaine & Her Best Good Friend’ took about 6 months to make, and teams of people from various industries across 4 countries, on 2 continents, in 2 hemispheres. I answered a call on Facebook to help document a very important trip, and at the time I never knew how important the story would turn out to be and I am not going to give much away, but I do want to really push home the fact that A LOT of people came together to make this adventure happen for two very special people and the whole experience has fostered in me an appreciation for strangers and the kindness they can and do show each other. This story is about Charmaine and Rory, their relationship, future and hard times faced. This is for Rory.
