I’ve always been loving genres-mixing pictures, with the belief of being able to write stories that often live with comedy echoes, with no exception. That’s what has mostly inspired Charlie.
As a long time passionate of Italian comedy films I’ve tried to explore, through brilliant filter, strong references headed to find contradictions and peculiarities of our times. With CHARLIE I set up our times… elsewhere, with an alternative form to have routines and boredom. That's what inspires Charlie more than anything. Everyday life is indeed the core of the film, lived by Antonio and Marco, an ordinary couple ready to face the end of the world.
CHARLIE is a romantic film: Antonio loves his partner and his father as well, finding himself in the most dismal hour of his youth, in the middle of a confusing situation you could hardly define “easy”.
We shot most of the film in only one set, and this somehow was an aesthetic, inspiring choice that sets up the actors movements as if they were on a stage, creating an effective atmosphere.
Computer graphics, furthermore, destroy Milan, our city, a land of joys… and flaws as well.
And the title of the film has not to go unnoticed: Charlie. A tribute to the great Charlie Chaplin is what leads the title choice. Some shots of Chaplin’s Easy Street are featured in the film, to show how great is the love for the Maestro who created Charlot.
This is a synergies films: cast and crew worked hard to have a great result. Without the massive effort that was given by all the ones involved in it, Charlie would not be here.
