Challenging Everesting
Covid 19 pandemic was a life changing experience. It changed the way we were used to live for decades.
The only positive change was provably the image of the big cities during the pandemic in regards to transport and means of travelling around.
The same thing happened to Athens when we started to see people on bikes riding around.
The bicycle was a main protagonist of this change and proved that it can be the solution for a series of modern world problems.
On Wednesday June 3rd, at the world Bicycle Day Takis Xouris participated on a special international challenge the everesting 10000.
Α 10Κ everesting is an effort of completing 10000 meters of ascent on a single bike ride, riding the same segment of a climb, even more than the 8484 meters of mount everest.
Takis completed this challenge climbing 14 times up and down Mt
Ymittos, covering 300 total kilometers.
The purpose of this effort was to motivate the state and the residents of Athens towards bike use and commuting in the City area.
His effort was encouraged and supported by a lot of Athenians that rode with him a part of the challenge from dusk till midnight during the 18 hours that took him to complete this challenge.
Even the minister of Sports showed up to pass himself the message of bike use and bike friendly cities.
By the time Takis did the 10K Everesting only 407 people across the globe had managed to complete such a challenge.
