Paul Hennessy was born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia. He grew up watching a wide variety of films from across the globe, and it is the influence of these films that has given him the unique taste in cinema that he has today.
He has dabbled in filmmaking across his education, producing short films from primary through to secondary education, and eventually studying screen production at Flinders University.
A lover of Charlie Kaufman’s filmography, as well as any filmmaker who plays with typical narrative structure, Paul has gravitated towards more experimental films in his own work, with a particular interest in ensemble films with unusual plot structure.
It is not rare for someone we know to believe they are the centre of the universe.
Whether they are a business tycoon, a nine-to-fiver or a high-class escort, everyone believes that their story is the one being told, that they are the protagonist of their own life.
This fantasy works well for movies, where a single often cliche narrative is explored for a singular character, but what if all of those self-centred protagonists were to meet? To whom would the spotlight belong then?
In this short film, the role of protagonist is abandoned as an ensemble of egos compete to be the Centre of the Universe.
