Experiencing Interruptions?

Caustics

Caustics is an installation piece shot in a rare still moment in the isles of Canada’s Georgian Bay Archipelago. Late fall beacons the cold winter winds, but this project documents an isolated stillness. The water is left un-rippled and becomes a near perfect mirror reflecting the rocks, jagged twigs and wind swept trees which lean all eastward as if still dancing in the wind, now absent. Each composition abstractly frames different landscapes and each holds the duality of movement and non movement.

They are all fragmented memories and dream-like understandings of the landscape in which you lose yourself, traveling through the imagery. there is no audio and this piece is intended to be projected in a space accompanied by other photographic and filmic works.

Director Biography - Tilley Aga Thom

My work plays with the spaces that lie in the between. I thrive working within this negative space, which is not a void but rather a vital pause, a gap which holds exciting interplay between realities, objects, people and most importantly narrative structures. This embracement of the inbetween is seen in both my narrative and abstract works.

My work orients around themes of family narratives, storytelling, death and grief explored mainly through mediums of film and photography. I encapsulate these themes through simple, small moments. These moments lead the viewer as well as the characters through a threshold, beyond the scope of the initial moment. Architecture and sculpture are aspects I am constantly experimenting with and use as aid in my storytelling. Although my recent mediums have been filmic, I enjoy drawing, painting, pottery, sculpture, textile and fashion design.
