Caulisious

Caulisious began as mere documentation on a series of textile designs I designed and made in early 2023 for the annual student lead fashion shot, Etobicoke Fashion Show at my arts high school. I knew the designs needed movement to show off the full intent of the pieces so I invited some dancer friends to improve and model in the designs instead of models. this was what lead an initially simple documentation project to become a self standing film in just a few minutes of shooting. the magic of the movement and the chemistry of the dancers and their beautiful and fully improvised choreography creates a vivid and stricking narrative, intense in emotion and woven perfectly with the intent of the fashion pieces themselves. Caulisious is only a trailer for a larger film. Collaborators and dancers Jahlaya LaFortune-Spencer and Nessie Hamilton.

Director Biography - Tilley Aga Thom

My work plays with the spaces that lie in the between. I thrive working within this negative space, which is not a void but rather a vital pause, a gap which holds exciting interplay between realities, objects, people and most importantly narrative structures. This embracement of the inbetween is seen in both my narrative and abstract works.

My work orients around themes of family narratives, storytelling, death and grief explored mainly through mediums of film and photography. I encapsulate these themes through simple, small moments. These moments lead the viewer as well as the characters through a threshold, beyond the scope of the initial moment. Architecture and sculpture are aspects I am constantly experimenting with and use as aid in my storytelling. Although my recent mediums have been filmic, I enjoy drawing, painting, pottery, sculpture, textile and fashion design.
