Catho specialises in film directing and screenwriting. She is uses film for social impact to push for meaningful representation. Her shooting style is raw, authentic and aims to capture the beauty in small, seemingly insignificant moments.
Catho began her career writing and directing stage productions. Her play The Games We Play in 2016 tackled the impacts of drone warfare on civilians in Pakistan performed in her local community. Her second production, titled When We Meet Again in 2017, dealt with the different and complicated interpersonal relationships between women who have faced loss.
She has moved from stage to screen with the intent to impact even more people and further elevate the voices of her characters. Catho’s films are saturated in emotion and unusual explorations of trauma which relate to her background as a first generation Indian woman who grew up in Australia.
Currently she is working with a team of creatives in LA and Sydney to run a creative studio which aims to deconstruct stigmas around mental health and ambition, and elevate the voices of the API and other marginalised communities through artistic, raw and unfiltered storytelling.
In particular Catho is working on projects that dive into the unspoken experiences of wom*n of colour and how their intersectional existence has impacted experiences like their reproductive and mental health.
