Director Statement

"Catfish" tells the story of a young couple's struggle to communicate in person, finally opening up to each other through the anonymous portal of the Internet. This film deals with the idea that opening up to those who care the most about you can often be harder than opening up to complete strangers. If anything, the increasing prevalence of digital communication has made it even easier to avoid the face-to-face conversations we sometimes want to avoid. I hope that viewers find themselves able to empathize with both Nathan and Hannah, as their attitudes toward each other are skewed by the disconnect in their online and real-world personas.
