From Maximillian Newcombe:

"Catchlight came about because of my desire to use my late grandfather's workshop as a filming location before it was knocked down. This theme ended up factoring heavily into the story, despite the first versions of the script being out-and-out horror.

Ultimately the film is about what photographers and documentary filmmakers do- preserving the memory of people and places whilst they are still around, and what this might mean to someone who thought they had missed their chance to make that happen.

I wanted to present a less typical sort of ghost story, harkening back to those I read a school, which often featured a pleasant, if a little strange, older person as the ghost, who would help the protagonist out before disappearing. However, in this film, it is the protagonist who helps the ghost, even though he may not necessarily know it. Hopefully people enjoy!

A massive thanks to the brilliant Lidia Huerta for co-directing the film, and to Carlo Micheli for all his help too."
