Director Statement

During the the COVID-19 pandemic the number of cases of domestic violence against women in Brazil rose drasticaly. We decided to create a movie that would dialogue with this dramatic statistic. In our creation processes, we investigate ways through which canonical and suposedly outdated literary works may still interest us in the present. We adapt such works producing films that are true critical statements of the originals. Nelson Rodigues was a prestigious Brazilian writer, who wrote his plays, chronicals and short stories between the 1940s and the 1980s. He is wildly known for dealing with very sensitive topics in his works, specially for the highly conservative Brazilian society of the time, such as misoginy, homossexuality, incest, domestic violence and rotten family relations.
