Pascoli Cards - The poet's insight of Barga

Not many people know that photography was one of Giovanni Pascoli’s great passions. Giovanni Pascoli is one of most known italian intellectual and writer, who lives between nineteenth and twentieth century.
“Pascoli cards” follow the careful gaze of the poet that lays, with his pen and his camera, on a remote land away from city life. He chose this place as a shelter: Barga, an unmistakable Tuscan place, framed by a chain of blue diamonds, the Apuan Alps.
This short documentary displays a gallery of private Kodak pictures, shot by the poet around Barga and the Serchio’s Valley between the nineteenth and the twentieth century. The story interwines his photos with the most beautiful pages of his vast literary production. Peering into these pictures, we will visit every corner of his house-museum in Castelvecchio Pascoli. It will be possible to look from a privileged point of view, using his eyes: the eyes of a great intellectual who, as an outsider, chose Barga as home, with its traditions and its enchanting beauties. He chose a land where it seems that time has stopped.
