Carriers

On April 15th, we met Benício.

Firstly, he noticed that we had a camera and asked us to take a photo of him and his colleague Eduardo, sitting in one of the carts they use for so-called "carries". So we had the opportunity to get closer to him and his experience there.

Benício is a carriers at the Pátio do Pari Supply Center, a profession that we never even imagined existed until then. They explained to us what the life of a Carriers is like, how much the cart rental costs, how many hours they work and their income. In addition to talking about his past and how he got there, at the height of his 50 years of age.

In this documentary, we seek to shed light on this profession unknown to the general public, but so fundamental in everyone's lives. Who carries the food that the stallholders buy before offering it to us at the markets? What are the anxieties and problems of this profession? What are its advantages?

We also follow Benício through his personal life story, his dreams, his relationship with his son and how he sees himself in the future. After all, is there a future in the Carriers profession?

We meet other figures too, like MC Coentro, a carriers who dreams of being a Funk MC, and even performs regularly at Heliópolis dances, where he is known as "The guy of the moment". He also has a relationship with the years he spent in prison and his search for a place to live, as his shack was recently torn down during the expropriation of the city hall.
