Director Statement

My motivation to do the Carol on Creativity Show was to inspire young and old to be creative and get joy from the process. I had just retired from 30 years of teaching art at Gilroy High School when I was approached to do an art educational show on local TV. I thought to myself that using this visual media is another way to teach art and that I am not confined to my classroom. I can show that art is everywhere and anyone can do it - even if they think they can’t. I jumped at the chance.

The premise of both Carol on Creativity and Carol on Creativity Revisited is to educate, motivate, entertain, inform, and bring projects home for the viewer to try themselves. I make it easy, using simple methods and materials. The projects range from traditional art to simple crafts that a seasoned artist or a beginner can adapt to their level.

In the original Carol on Creativity we shot in my home studio and did traditional methods and other times we went on location visiting tattoo parlors, body shops, a renowned sculpture studio, and various areas around our town with special guests showing their art talent. In every episode, I would always demonstrate the easy way to make it work for everyone. I focused on teaching basic art principles, coupled with new approaches that are always fun, informative, and motivational. The show was never the same.

We use this same format with “a twist” in the Carol on Creativity Revisited episodes. On The Carol on Creativity Revisited Show, Mike Sanchez is my co-host and we share the same vision: to bring art into your home, to educate and motivate you to try the projects we demonstrate, and to enjoy the process along the way.

In this series we bring back some of my original guests, show B-Roll of when they were on the original Carol on Creativity Show, and highlight some of their special skills whether they are artists or have another special talent. We always have fun with the guests doing a new art-based project that uses the same materials we used on the original Carol on Creativity in a different way.

Viewers at home feel comfortable seeing some of the guests who are not artists be good sports and learn for the first time.

I feel so blessed to have taught art all my life. I love teaching and sharing my passion. There has never been anything else I would rather do. I can’t express how much it means when I get feedback from viewers that they tried the project, learned something about art they never knew, and say they were entertained at the same time.
