Carlos Canela has a degree in letters from the Federal University of Viçosa and is a partner at Carabina Filmes, where he works in the direction of audiovisual works, script writing, video and film editing and analysis of cinematographic developments. He is also a writer, theater director, and visual artist.
He directed his first fiction feature “Behind the eyes of serious girls” in 2018, completed in 2020. He directed also two feature-length documentaries, “O Homem Roxo”, from 2010 and “Coisa Nossa”, from 2012. He directed and he also scripted the medium-length documentary “O Canto da Araponga” for DOC-TV of Rede Cultura in 2004, in addition to directing and scripting more than 15 short films.
He directed three shorts in 35 mm, among them “O Homem da Cabeça de Papelão”, winner of the prize for best film from Minas Gerais in 2007 and best director of short films and selected for the San Sebastian Festival, in Spain, among others.
He also wrote and directed several theatrical shows, highlighting “Sgroft, Heretica or Nobody”, from 2009 and “I go up to forget what from below I can no longer see”, from 2013.
He is currently working on the development of his next feature film project “Fufúsica”.
