Director Biography - John Freeman, Karenssa LeGear

Karenssa LeGear comes from a long history of working in front of the camera, and on stage, as an actress and singer. In recent years she has finally stepped into the additional roles of Director, Producer, Casting Director, & Collaborative Screenwriter. Karenssa is a dual citizen of Australia & the U.S.A.

John Freeman comes from a background behind the camera specializing as a director and cinematographer. Having been part of dozens of projects in San Diego and LA, John has worked on everything from music videos to feature films -bringing the make believe to life on the big screen for nearly a decade.

Over the past 5 years, Karenssa & John have worked together on numerous independent films in San Diego. “Capture” marks the duo’s first collaboration as co- writers, co-directors, and co-producers. They followed "Capture" with a 5 minute narrative dramatic short, "In the Absence of Eden", which became an official selection and semi-finalist for the 2019 Women Making A Scene International film project. Karenssa is currently working with the screenwriter on a feature film based on that short.

Casting:
Karenssa has been fortunate to work on a variety of film projects as a Casting Director and Casting Associate. She served as Casting Director on "Sister Mercy", a short thriller from filmmaker (and Sharknado editor), William Boodell and most recently, "Moving Out", a short film fiscally sponsored by Film Independent - on which she was also an Executive Producer. Karenssa has also worked as a Casting Associate for several TV Movies.

Highlighted Film/TV Acting Credits include: Warner Brothers’ “Veronica Mars”, Lifetime Channel and Lifetime Movie Network's, “Christmas Harmony”, "Killer Contractor", and “Killer Caregiver”.

Highlighted Musical Stage Credits include: Christine in "The Phantom of the Opera", Cosette in "Les Miserables", and Antonia in "Man of La Mancha".

Director Statement

"Capture" is a screen adaptation based on the short story "Close the Lights, Turn off the Window" by Rory Kelly. The filmmakers were paired with Mr. Kelly's short story as part of a timed and themed film competition in 2018.
