Jessica Ridenour is a multimedia producer, director, and actor. She has been working as a performer in Chicago since 2010 and in recent years has become increasingly active on the other side of the camera, directing and producing several short projects. Her most recent projects include three audio plays for Chicago Children’s Theatre, a short film entitled Borne, Bottled, and an educational children's television show.
I've never been much of a horror fan. As a person with an anxiety disorder, the idea of intentionally triggering my panic reflex in a room full of strangers or even while lounging on my couch seems unnecessary. I could just try to ask a store associate where to find an item if I wanted to experience cold sweats and tachycardia. So imagine my...horror... when I was asked to attend a few horror festivals on behalf of a Frankenstein adaption in which I performed. Much to my surprise, I found the community to be welcoming and full of humor and joy. I truly enjoyed myself.
I set out to create a a series of short films about every day horrors, mostly in the lives of women. "Captive" is the first of these films, shot in one day with just myself and my cinematographer Matthew Mahaffey (who also has a beautiful leg cameo at the end). I am enormously proud of what we pulled together with such limited resources. I hope you enjoy!
