I am Rodrigo Oliva, a 24-year-old emerging filmmaker, originally from Mexico City and now residing in Guadalajara. My career in film is in its early stages, but my enthusiasm is unwavering. My passion lies in exploring new narratives and challenging cinematic conventions. Through my stories, I aspire to evoke emotions and move audiences, transcending boundaries and leaving a lasting impression on the big screen. My journey is a continuous process of self-expression and the creation of works that elicit emotions. I am eager to share my artistic vision with the world, and I promise to surprise and touch hearts with my stories.
The musical is a genre that caught my attention since I realized its narrative potential through the spectacle, an incredible medium to convey that feeling as directly as possible, thanks to music. I consider the theme of music very important personally, as I am a witness to its great quality; music transcends language.
The story of Captain Paco was born from my immense love for space, the stars, galaxies, and more than anything, the desire to know what lies in that almost magical atmosphere one creates when trying to imagine what can be up there. This powerful imagination is represented through Sara, the driver's daughter, who helps him revive this imagination to cope with his frustration in his day-to-day life.
With this short musical, I seek to heal this internal frustration, representing my desire to dream big again, despite the obstacles one faces.
