Director Biography - Frank Besl

SHORT BIOGRAPH / CINEMATIC HISTORY

Frank Besl, born on 04.06.1979 in Bremerhaven, grew up in Hagen im Bremischen, living now in Bremen since 2000. Sport has been one of the most important things since early childhood. At the age of 12, he started together with his brother and best friends, as well as his father's camera to shoot smaller fun and martial arts themed films. After the civil service and training as a banker, the "seriousness of working life" took the main position and the great passion of filming faded into the background.

In 2011, in addition to the longstanding own insurance agency, he founded the company "Friesenring GbR", which deals with experimental archeology and organizes museum events, lectures, school visits and entire project weeks.

In 2013 it came with the short film "Überwindung (Overcoming)" for the first participation in a short film competition, the "99-Fire Film Award", with camera and editing was still taken over by a Bremen filmmaker.

As a result, first screenplay attempts were made until the "film fire" from childhood had thus again completely under control Frank Besl, so that in the years since the first short film competition participation in 2013 a lot of equipment, knowledge and experience has been collected and in addition to a few short film works also image films, commercials, Making Of, music and other videos have emerged.

This was followed in 2017 by the 15-minute short film "So geht's auch" (It also works like that), which is broadcast by the submission to the "Filmfest Spezial" every now and then in North German citizen TV stations and in May 2017 at the "Open Screen" in Bremen, where he got the 2nd place. As well as "Damenqual" (Ladies torment) in 2017 and "STARTKLAR" (Ready to go) in 2018, which were presented as contributions to the Short Film Competition “Klappe” in the Cinema at the 3rd and 4th film Festival Bremen.

Other short films, such as "WE LOVE TO ENTERTAIN", or "Aber sowas von" (But something of) were produced and submitted there in 2018 and 2019 on the occasion of the 99-Fire-Film-Award.

In parallel to these in-house productions, Frank Besl gets many impressions and inspirations from major film productions, to which he is engaged with smaller roles, so that in 2018 he appeared in the docu-drama " Die Affäre Borgward " and the "Bremer Tatort" in 2019 " Die Pfefferkörner und der Schatz der Tiefsee", as well as " Boot un Dood" or 2020 in „Rabiye Kurnaz gegen George W. Bush“.

In 2018, Frank Besl resigned from the insurance industry and founded the company "B · FOCUSED Filmproduktion", which has since taken care of all aspects of the film and has returned to full control of his childhood passion.

In April 2018, the shooting of the 15-minute short film "Living History" took place, which was completed in the following 10 months by Frank Besl.

In 2019 he continued to play a small role in the crime comedy "Boot un Dood", a Low German crime comedy that is due to be released in 2020.
In addition to this acting work, he accompanied the entire film production and produced a "Behind-the-Scenes Documentation" sponsored by nordmedia, which also shows him at work, and so he uses additional comments and actions as a "red thread" through the documentation leads. After filming this, a month later he produced another short film "Tierisch gut - Qualitätssiegel, wo bist du" (Animally good - seal of quality where are you) with some of the actors from the Low German crime film production on the occasion of the short film competition KLAPPE, which was shown in the cinema at the 5th Filmfest Bremen. This film was expanded with two more days of shooting and additional actors and will go on a competitive tour in 2020/21.

In September 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, another short film, “Jetzt erst recht”(Especially now), was produced on the occasion of the online edition of the KLAPPE competition at the Bremen Film Festival.
In April 2021, the next short film work for the KLAPPE competition there followed, so that “CARPE DIEM – Pflücke den Tag” (CARPE DIEM - Pick the day) came about, which was expanded in April 2022 to include the short film "Run for the tea". All of these films were shown in cinemas there during the film festival.
The task of the competition also resulted in the 25-minute short film "Fragil" in the course of 2022, which was finalized in January 2023 and was immediately submitted to the first film festival in January 2023.
Parallel to "Run for the tea", a documentary music video called "Sülvige Boot - Making-Of-Version" was created from recordings of the documentary "Boot un Dood" for the completed song "Sülvige Boot" in early 2022, which was submitted to several music video festivals. In the course of 2022, both nationally and internationally, from Munich to Budapest until to New York, the musicvideo was very successful and emerge several times as a winner with prizes such as "Best Production", "Best Sound Design", "Best documentary music video", "Best Edeting “ and others.
