Cairo International Film Critics Week (10-17 November) will be held for the first time this year. It aims to showcase first and second feature films by directors from all over the world.

CIFCW is an independent program, organized by the Egyptian Film Critics Association(EFCA), in parallel with, and the support of the Cairo International Film Festival (9–18 November 2014).

Cairo International Film Critics Week has its own jury which awards the Shadi Abd El Salam prize for best film (50,000 LE for the director), and the Fathy Farag Prize for best artistic contribution (25,000 LE).

Please submit your film if:

1-it is your first or second film for you as a director over 60 mins. (we don't count the shorts!)
2-It could be Feature, Documentary, or Animation as long as it exceeds 60 mins.
3-FilmFreeway are exempted from sending DVD screeners. We just need your film link.

The Regulations of The International Film Critics' Week

Article 1

The International Critic’s Week (IFCW) is an Independent parallel program organized by the Egyptian Film Critics Association (EFCA) member of The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) during the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) and supported by the festival.

Article 2

IFCW aims to contribute the art and science of film (Fiction – Documentary – Animation) and encourage intercultural dialogue.

Article 3

The first IFCW will be held in Cairo from November 10 – 17, 2014 during the 36th Cairo International Film Festival (November 9 – 18, 2014).

Article 4

The IFCW is an international competition for feature films (7 films).

Article 5

The board of the International Film Critic’s Week will choose the jury of the international competition. The jury will be comprised of a president and two members, none of whom will have any connections with the competition films.

Article 6

The Jury is obliged to award the following prizes:

The Shadi Abd El Salam Prize for best film (50.000 LE for the director).
The Fathy Farag Prize for best artistic contribution (25.000 LE).

Article 7

The Jury can neither grant any extra prizes or special mentions, nor can it divide any prize or award one film more than two prizes.

Article 8

The films are selected by a direct invitation from the board of the International Film Critics' Week, or through the chosen entries filed on the IFCW website ( The application window will be opened until September 9, 2014.

Article 9

To participate in the International Competition, all films must meet the following criteria:

All Films must be the first or the second feature of its director. Duration of each film must exceed the sixty-minute mark.
Films must be produced between 2013 and 2014.
All films must not have been screened in Egypt before.
All films must not have been broadcasted on any media before.
All films must fill the required entry form.
All films must send a DVD copy with Arabic or English subtitles by post to :

The sender shall take care of the postal expenses. The film title and the director’s name should be printed on the parcel in English, accompanied by the following phrase “Without commercial value and for cultural purposes only.”
Send the following materials by post in case the film is selected, at the expense of the IFCW, not later than September 20, 2014:
Stills from the film and a photo of the director.
The poster of the film.
Biographies and filmographies of the filmmakers.
Three minutes of the film for promotional purposes.
Printed English dialogue of the film.
In case the film is selected, screening copies of the films shall be sent at the expense of IFCW, not later than October 20, 2014. All copies must meet the following criteria:
Copies must be DCP or HDCAM.
Copies must be in the original language of the film.
Copies must be accompanied by Arabic or English subtitles.
The IFCW will get an authorization to screen each film selected twice.
Once a film has been selected and the producer has confirmed, it cannot be withdrawn from the IFCW.

Article 10

The screening copies will be insured by IFCW for the duration they are in its possession and will cover the cost of returning the screening copies not later than November 30, 2014.

Article 11

Participation in the International Critics' Week designates full acceptance of all regulation articles which are issued in Arabic and English and are subject to Egyptian laws. In case of any dispute, the original Arabic text is to be taken as the decisive transcript.
