CRASH - International Fantastic Film Festival is a film festival that will take place from December 07 to 11, 2022, in the city of Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil. CRASH 2022 will accept submissions of fantasy, horror and science fiction films of any length, produced from 2020 to 2022.
But why CRASH?
First of all, CRASH brings to mind a rupture, a break. There’s something powerful and dynamic in the expression, commonly used as a comic book
onomatopoeia. Rupture, impact, potency and dynamism are characteristics at the very core of the kind of cinema that we try to bring to the festival screen. On the other hand, for those that follow us from the beginning, it’s easy to see the connection with the old namesake ‘TRASH’. That is, CRASH is, indeed, a rupture – but the kind of rupture that doesn’t turn its back on the past. This is the sixth edition in a row where we place genre cinema at the heart of the show. That was never as necessary as it is now. Historically, fantasy cinema has always risen up to the occasion of probing the dilemmas of its time. In movies such as Nosferatu, Dr. Caligari’s Cabinet and Metropolis, German expressionism foresaw and warned about the dangers of Nazism. During the 1950s and 1960s, American b-movies dealt in an unique manner with macarthism, the Cold War and nuclear paranoia. Thus, fantasy cinema has the inexhaustible potential of asking questions about the days we live in. It’s what legendary sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick would call the “shock of dysrecognition”: society’s critique directed towards itself through allegories that distort the reality we see. This is the prism through which to see the 14th edition of CRASH: critique and resistance. Throughout the event, debates, workshops and releases of all kinds will take place, unfolding in a veritable mosaic of genre cinema, transmogrifying in a meeting point for all those that see art as a battlefield and a place of resistance.

CRASH - Mostra Internacional de Cinema Fantástico é um festival de cinema que acontecerá de 07 a 11 de dezembro de 2022, na cidade de Goiânia, Goiás, Brasil. CRASH 2022 aceita inscrições de filmes de fantasia, terror/horror e ficção científica, com qualquer duração, produzidos de 2020 a 2022.
Mas por que CRASH?
Em primeiro lugar, CRASH remete a uma ideia de quebra, ruptura. Há algo de potente e dinâmico nesta expressão – tão utilizada como onomatopeia nas histórias em quadrinhos. Quebra, ruptura, potência e dinamismo estão no cerne do tipo de cinema que buscamos trazer à tela do festival. Por outro lado, para quem nos acompanha desde o princípio, é moleza estabelecer uma associação com a velha alcunha TRASH. Ou seja, a CRASH é, sim, uma ruptura – mas daquelas que não vira as costas para tudo que foi construído no passado. Esta é a sexta edição consecutiva em que assumimos o cinema de gênero como alma da mostra. E isso jamais foi tão pertinente. Em panoramas similares, o cinema fantástico sempre ofereceu respostas à altura dos dilemas de sua época. Em películas como Nosferatu, O Gabinete do Dr. Caligari e Metrópolis, o expressionismo alemão anteviu e fez contundentes alertas à chegada do nazismo. Durante as décadas de 50 e 60, os filmes B americanos trataram de forma única o macarthismo, a Guerra Fria e a paranoia nuclear. O cinema fantástico tem, portanto, essa inesgotável capacidade de problematizar questões que nos afligem hoje. É o que o emblemático escritor de ficção científica Philip K. Dick chamaria de “choque de desreconhecimento”: a crítica da própria sociedade através das alegorias criadas por obras que distorcem a realidade tal e qual a vemos a olho nu. Este é o viés da 14ª CRASH: crítica e resistência. Ao longo do evento teremos ainda debates, oficinas e lançamentos, compondo um verdadeiro mosaico do cinema de gênero, que se transmuta em ponto de encontro de todos aqueles que enxergam na arte um campo de luta e resistência. Que venham os pesadelos. Estamos mais que preparados para eles.
