My name is Huong Nguyen, I go by Hailey, and I'm a Media and Film Production student at Suffolk University. Before making my first original short film, I have had multiple on-hand experiences with filmmaking, specifically as a director and a cinematographer. My production projects vary from short films, documentaries, to media news.
With recent updates about advanced technology and AI-generated programs like ChatGPT, my main concern with the technological revolution we are witnessing is how artificial intelligence can take away various people's jobs, especially the ones whose careers are dependent on their creativity. COPYRIGHTED is created based on the timely changes we face today.
Although this is sort of a science fiction, I hope the audience can feel how realistic the copyright issue is in the creative industry. From coming up with a script idea, finding the cast and crew to help me execute my vision to life, to setting up the production and showing the final project to a small audience, it all took a week and a half. Because this short film was originally a part of my class' finals and had no budget at all, I was fortunate to utilize the equipment and props we have at Suffolk University. The experience of working on this short film will benefit me on future projects because it was the first time I did mostly everything myself, from pre to post production.
COPYRIGHTED is currently being used in the syllabus of the Visual Aesthetics course at Suffolk University as part of the genre studies, and I am going to visit the class to discuss about the film with the professor and students in April.
