COME SABBIA AL VENTO (LIKE SAND IN THE WIND) – Demo

The documentary is centred on an interview with a young Senegalese man who arrived in Italy after enduring countless hardships in Africa. To enhance the story, there is a fictional part about a little boy and a bandana.

The documentary provides a clear and vivid description of what human trafficking in Africa really is. A steeplechase based on the ancient caravan routes from the sub-Saharan regions to the Mediterranean, now the main routes of the new slave trade. How do trafficking organisations work? What does it mean for a young man of 22 to embark on such a dangerous journey? What are his motivations, his dreams? What kind of future does he have once he arrives in our country?

Malamine is not just an immigrant, he is a survivor! Yet many of his fellow travellers didn't make it. As a duty of truth and justice, we have the task of collecting his story, in honour of those sunk into the sand.

Director Biography - Paolo Catellani

Paolo Catellani began his career as a videomaker after a careful study of photography. Through intense professional activity in the corporate and wedding sector, he specialised in filming and editing techniques. In 2010 he also started to teach, creating a video course for videocorsipro.it on the use of the professional video editing software FinalCut Pro. In 2018, he entered the documentary world as assistant director for the documentary “Dove è casa” (“Where home is”), commissioned by his municipality and sponsored by the Emilia Romagna Region, on the theme of integration. After a decade of voluntary work in the social sector, he started a project that in 2023 will become the documentary “Come Sabbia al vento” (“Like sand in the wind”) about the African human trafficking. The project responds to the author's urgent need to give a voice and dignity to people who, despite incalculable risks, decide to embark on what the United Nations has defined as one of the most dangerous migratory routes in the world.
