Caitlyn C. Johnson is an award-winning filmmaker from the South Side of Chicago and is currently based in Brooklyn, NY. Caitlyn was raised by a working class family who shared stories at gatherings, on phone calls, and any moment of community and connection. Caitlyn’s storytelling examines the internal struggles, joys, and unique worlds that Black folks inhabit.

Her diverse background spreads across every stage of filmmaking including development, editing, cinematography and programming. No matter the form of that work, Caitlyn centers her practices in interdisciplinary and radical storytelling. In 2018 Caitlyn co-created, co-executive produced and directed the acclaimed web-series SEEDS which was distributed by OTV, her first of two projects for that platform. Caitlyn was the co-recipent of the Bustle’s Emerging Female Filmmakers, Washington College Presidential Fellow and Metrograph Production Fellow 2022. In August, her latest short film, Bad Blood (2022), will have it’s New York premiere at Greenpoint Film Festival followed by its west coast premiere at the Black August Film Festival. Caitlyn is currently an MFA Candidate and thesis student at Tisch School of the Arts where she is a recipient of the Tisch Scholarship.
