Writer/Director Lucy Moses has been working in this industry for 20 years, but CHOICES is her directorial debut. Having trained as an actor at Drama Centre London following a BA Hons in English Literature, Film and Drama, Lucy worked as an actor for 8 years. She performed in the West End, at The Old Vic, and the Edinburgh Fringe where she wrote, produced and starred in her first play.
She has also appeared in various short films and TV shows learning about performing for the cameral gaining invaluable directing insight. She has worked as a TV director and editor for live shows such as Richard and Judy and Saturday Kitchen but has always wanted to direct film. She has also worked extensively as a producer so has seen every side of the camera! Lucy has bought together all her skills to now start writing, directing and producing her own films.
CHOICES was born out of an injustice and frustration sweeping women in their 30’s who haven’t followed the convention of meeting someone and having a family, but who feel the insane suffocating societal pressure to do so. There is also the unavoidable tick of their biological clocks to contend with. Times have changed so much in terms of the ‘norm’ when it comes to families, but one thing that can never change is that women’s fertility has a shelf life. This puts women in an impossible situation if they are heading towards their mid to late 30’s and haven’t met anyone but want a baby. Many women are forced into making a choice of perhaps the wrong person as they are so terrified of being left on the shelf, and potentially forfeiting the chance to have a family. As men can carry on procreating into older age, this is a predicament reserved solely for women and it’s bloody unfair. With CHOICES I wanted to give voice to this situation – acknowledge it, bring it into view, but also provide hope that choices can be made. That women DO now have more choices than ever, if only they can be brave, ignore society and stay true to themselves.
