Kyle Vieira is an upcoming independent filmmaker based in the Greater Toronto Area. With aspirations in screenwriting and filmmaking, Vieira wants to learn from others so that he can use storytelling as a catalyst for change.
My first independently produced short film takes a look at how black bodies are trapped in a repeated cycle of incarceration. A chess match if you say, where the police system uses their power to keep black individuals at a constant disadvantage. The grey suits, similar to confederate uniforms, reflect a past that is still seen in contemporary society. Whether it is a Black King surrounded by white pieces on the chess board, or a Black man being closed in by the police, we live in a world where people only see a difference between black and white.
