Director Biography - Nia Imani, Adeshola Makinde

Nia Imani and Adeshola Makinde are a filmmaking duo located in Chicago, Illinois.

NIA IMANI -

Nia Imani is a filmmaker based in Chicago, Illinois best known for her editing work on Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé, the winner of Best Music Film at the 62nd Grammy Awards. Raised in Orlando, Florida, she earned her MFA from the College of Motion Picture Arts at Florida State University. She has also created visual content for Beyonce and Jay-z’s On The Run 2 Tour, Steve McQueen, and directed and edited music videos for Chloe and Halle and H.E.R. She has collaborated with several brands on projects including with Sacai , Nike, and Patta. Most recently Nia worked with Janicza Bravo for the Miu Miu Women’s Tale’s fashion film , and edited Olivia Rodrigo’s visual album/documentary for Disney Plus/Interscope.

ADESHOLA MAKINDE -

Adeshola Makinde is a Nigerian-American multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago, Illinois. The mission of his art practice is to educate by sharing the information that he learns on his personal journey of Black consciousness. His work challenges viewers to question the systems they find themselves in and to have much needed conversations with those closest to them regarding social justice issues.

Through his different expressions of art whether it be through collage, digital media, or music, Makinde strives to highlight the many beautiful facets of black life while engaging with his community.
