CALL ME BY MY NAME
In “Call Me by My Name,” acclaimed film and stage actor Tracey Bonner, portrays Henrietta Lacks, an African American woman, who worked from childhood on in the tobacco fields of Virginia. This mother of five’s own cancer cells were the source of what has become known as the “HeLa cell line,” the first and the most important immortalized cell line in medical research history. In this powerful solo piece, Henrietta Lacks returns to speak for herself.

Sandra Seaton is a librettist and playwright. Among her fourteen plays, The Bridge Party, Seaton’s first play, portrays a group of Black women who fight to maintain their dignity in the face of racism. Seaton’s other works include Music History or a Play about Greeks and SNCC in 1963. Dreamland: Tulsa 1921, Seaton’s collaboration with composer Marques L A Garrett, was performed at Carnegie Hall and nominated for the 2022 Pulitzer Prize in Music. In 2023 Seaton’s play with music, The Passion of Mary Cardwell Dawson, with mezzo soprano Denyce Graves and music by composer Carlos Simon, was performed at the Kennedy Center. Seaton’s solo play Sally starring Sabrina Sloan, who plays Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton, was performed at the Aspen Theatre Festival.
