By the way, my mother is still looking for me
A short film that talks about the normalization of the disappearances of people that happen in Mexico daily. The focus lies on the students that go missing, because it seems like there is no answer as to where they are and what really happened to them. It’s as if they literally disappeared, like in a dark magic trick. But even though they are not present physically anymore, they keep on living in the memories as well as in the permanent search of their relatives. It’s a fire that never goes out.

Kris Bublevskaya's passion ignited when she first picked up her great grandfather's Zenit photo camera. Since then she didn't stop imagining her surroundings through a different kind of lense. Starting studying at the Academy of Media Arts in 2020 allowed her to explore with new ways of speaking about issues that matter to her. Merging socio-political topics in her art as well as an exploration of identity is where her focus lies on.
In my exchange year in Mexico I realised that a lot of people that go missing there are students that are trying to make a life for themselves and their families. The paradox of it it being such a crucial topic, yet maybe exactly because of the commonness of it, it seemed to be embedded as a normality of people's reality there.
When returning to Germany I knew that my friends in Mexico are living with a constant fear of one day not returning home. With this film I attempted to bring this topic closer to Europe, at the same time honoring the families who have to live through the pain in a hope for a change.
