By Candombe’s corners

Candombe is the father of all Congado guards, a ritual in praise to Our Lady of Rosary, mother of the Black people. In tradition, his history refers to the fusion of Jeje-Nagô culture and rustic Catholicism. It is a ritual done between members and it is not open to the population because it involves maintaining ancestral secrets. However, in the district of Mocambeiro, in the state of Minas Gerais, the public appearance of Candombes alongside Our Lady of Rosary makes it different from other Candombes in Minas Gerais. Pelos Cantos do Candombe (“By Candombe’s corners”, in Brazilian Portuguese) is a movie that wanders the corners of Mocambeiro, seeking Candomber songs.
