Burt's Electronics

Burt’s Electronics is a place of worship in Kingston, NY. Most would call it an electronics repair shop, but for loyal customers around the country, Burt’s is a destination worthy of pilgrimage. The figure at the center, Burt Penchansky, is more monk than cult leader, as he has spent nearly 50 years tending to the broken machines that, after his welding and twisting and occasional belt replacement, allow his customers to access the beauty of music straight from the source. But in the middle of the night on January 17th, 2022, a fire started at 549 Albany Avenue and Burt’s Electronics lost its home.

Our film follows Burt teaching us how to set up our new record player. While the road to recovery for his store is unclear, this story celebrates his knowledge and reverence for music and the human senses.
