Director Biography - Tiana Cheung

Tiana Lucerne Cheung, who goes by "Tiana Lucerne," is a 19-year old filmmaker based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is a current undergraduate freshman at UC Berkeley studying Film and Data Science.

Six years ago at age 13, Tiana began uploading videos to her YouTube channel, with topics ranging from fashion to school advice to an award-winning short film about women empowerment in corporate offices titled "Breaking the Glass Ceiling," which was later chosen to screen at the AMC Aventura 24 theater in Miami, Florida. Her video series about school/education, in particular, served as a voice for other middle schoolers & high schoolers around the world who didn't have that sibling, parent, or friend to turn to for guidance. Her YouTube, transforming into a platform for digital community, has since captivated 7,400+ subscribers and 645,900+ total channel views from over 84 countries.

Immediately upon graduating high school, Tiana spent a summer in Los Angeles where she dipped her feet into the film industry. In addition to being accepted into/participating in a myriad of student film sets through the USC School of Cinematic Arts "Film & Digital Cinematography" summer course, she took on many roles in real industry sets, including Assistant to Executive Producer & D.I.T. for "The Blend" Talk Show Season 1 at LA Castle Studios, Assistant Director Intern for the Crypt TV "Troubled Youth" Horror Webseries, Script Supervisor for the "Other Loving" Concept Film directed by an NCIS:LA Editor, and Production Designer Assistant for the "Better than Somedays" short film which won 1st place for "Best Overall Mobile Film" in the AT&T Shape Create-a-Thon Competition 2018 in partnership with the Warner Bros. Studios. Additionally, she co-wrote a feature-length, mumblecore genre screenplay with her classmate at USC, and they have officially registered it with the Writers Guild of America (WGA).

Tiana strives to leverage the art of storytelling in order to amplify underrepresented voices. Ultimately, she aspires to write/direct/DP feature and independent films, short films, music videos, and commercials that focus on realism and the human experience. She also plans to combine her knowledge of machine learning to increase flexibility in regards to art practices, specifically film editing. As an artist, she believe we shouldn’t be limited to what readymade tools allow us to express; rather, we should innovate new tools that resonate with our creative vision.
