As an Indigenous kid (Algonquins of Pikwakanagan) growing up in Oshawa, Ontario, Tom was pursuing a promising hockey career when he was struck by the metaphorical lightning that came from George Lucas' "Star Wars."
After seeing it six times in the theater that summer, his DNA had forever been altered and filmmaking became EVERYTHING. Inspired by the incredible work of Lucas, Spielberg, Donner, Cronenberg, Carpenter, Miller, and Raimi, Tom began making his own ambitious short films shot on Super 8. Comedies, horrors and sci-fi epics, beginning with one of the world's first Star Wars Fan Films "The Unsung Heroes of the Empire Strikes Back."
By the time he applied to York University's film program, he had over 20 short films under his belt which were rewarded with an Entrance scholarship. He graduated with Honors in both Production and Screenwriting.
With his passion for Star Wars as his base, he broke into visual effects for television shows earning him multiple nominations for his work and has continued to pursue his love of making movies with numerous short films and screenplays in an effort to one day create the next inspiring blockbuster movie.
Inspired by our love of both action-comedy movies and small town life, "Brothers in Law" was the cooperative effort between myself and Randall Lobb, who lives in the beautiful small town of Goderich, Ontario, the bucolic setting of our story. And just like us, our characters embody the desire to be grander than their expectations but (unlike us, thankfully) go about realizing it in the worst way.
In spite of our minuscule budget and tiny crew, "Brothers in Law" feels like a much grander tale. And that's just the way we like it. At its heart is the story of a brotherhood, the kind not seen much anymore and like the plight of rural life itself, may one day become the stuff of legends.
