Aditya Watts studied Film Direction in Whistling Woods International (2008-2010) in Mumbai, India. He wrote and directed 6 short films before embarking on an independent journey which led to various attempts at developing and executing a Feature Film.
The first such proper go was in 2014-15 when he shot a micro-budget sci-fi fantasy The Golden Boyz. This attempt, due to a variety of reasons, became more of an education than a project ready to be sent out into the world. It remains in his hard drive, variously afflicted yet cherished child.
The second attempt began in 2018 which culminated in the shooting of Kaansya (Bronzed) an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Troilus and Cressida. After going through various indie film struggles, the film was finally finished in Oct’23.
My first complete feature film is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s relatively unpopular play Troilus and Cressida. The story attracted me instantly when I read it first in 2014. The complexity of the situation and how primal it was, how deeply it revealed the essential, animal nature’s of people’s fears and desires is what drew me in.
An event such as this - a married woman running away with a rival felt so contemporary, so universal, and in a way - so Indian, that I was tempted to explore it. The story gave me a canvas of over a dozen human’s to explore and I took the ball and ran with it. I barely glimpsed back at the play once I was inspired. I have adapted freely and I felt that was best. I hope despite it’s flaws, it’s worth your while.
