Welcome to the Bristol Independent Film Festival. We are one of the UKโ€™s fastest-growing independent film festivals! We are proud to announce that we are sponsored by FilmFreeway and will be screening at the Everyman Bristol Cinema.

Since we started in 2016 we have had submissions from over 120 countries. We pride ourselves on being an international film festival. We aspire to promote, recognize and support independent filmmakers throughout the world by hosting a variety of awards to provide the best opportunities for filmmakers and help them receive their deserved recognition. We welcome submissions from a range of genres including short films, documentaries, features, animations, and screenplays.

โ€ขWe aim to create a community of independent film-makers and an environment where we can celebrate independent film and our submittersโ€™ creations.
โ€ขFor each event, we provide networking booklets that include information about each winner and ways to contact them. We also provide trophies and winners packs.
โ€ขEach season we offer cash prizes to our favorite submissions to help fund their future projects.
โ€ขFinally, we aim to establish personal relationships with our submitters. We always enjoy finally meeting with our filmmakers/ scriptwriters and being able to celebrate their accomplishments in person.

Bristol was recently recognized by UNESCO as a โ€œCity of Filmโ€ alongside the likes of Sydney, Rome, and Galway. We pride ourselves on being the largest celebration of independent film in Bristol and we aim to create a hub for independent film-makers.

Our submissions are judged by a jury of international industry professionals. They rate each submission on 10 different categories including cinematography, writing, pacing, and creativity. This helps them decide which submissions make it to the final stage where there will be jury group viewings to make sure we only pick the best quality submissions.

We look forward to viewing your creations and hope to meet you at our 3rd annual celebration of independent film.

We only award the best independent filmmakers after a comprehensive evaluation process. Our judges evaluate the quality of filmmaking, creativity, and storytelling ability.

All selected nominees will be invited to our live screening at the Everyman Bristol Cinema for the opportunity to meet people from the same industry.

All winners will receive โ€œwinnerโ€ laurel with a hard copy certificate and special engraved โ€œBristol Independent Film Festivalโ€ trophy presented at our live screening on Event Date. Winners and selected nominees that cannot attend the event will be contacted by BIFF team to send the awards to the provided address.

All selected and winning nominees will be contacted by the BIFF team a month prior to notification date to for further information.

We were honored to have our film selected to screen at the Bristol Independent Film Festival in 2019.

Although we were unable to attend, the communication was friendly and thoughtful. Based on their social media posts, the event looked like a blast and was presented in a proper theater on DCP.

Hopefully we'll be lucky enough to screen at a future event and join them for the festivities!

A great festival, and although I couldn't be there, they communicated really well, from the very beginning - right up to details about sending the trophy! Everything was really clear and I was so thrilled to receive the Best director's prize, thank you for selecting the film on behalf of all the crew ! Best, Bridget

  • Our movie has been in many film festivals, and none have been more inviting, exciting and worth attending than this little gem of an event. Held in an incredible venue and ran by people who really care about films, this festval is a must for film fans.
And our movie 'The Conversation' has picked over 40 awards and nominations - so I've attended a few!

Bristol has been an exceptionally wonderful experience! For such a young โ€” but growing โ€” festival they have done everything right, and have definitely been one of my favourite experiences during the festival circuit for my short this year. Although I regrettably was unable to attend, the team has done a great job at keeping me updated on details for the event and maintaining a very punctual and organized emailing system and consistently stayed on top of status updates. Despite the dramatic time zone difference, the friendly festival organizer Melisa has done a great job within the communication process, answering all questions thoroughly. Itโ€™s lovely to see more festivals like this one that supports independent and young filmmakers worldwide, and provide such a variety of opportunities for us, even after the event is over! It was quite an honour to hear my film was simply selected as a part of the festival, let alone winning Best Student Director! I will surely be submitting as well as attending next year and I highly recommend Bristol to indie filmmakers of any kind with any type of film, as Bristol has a category for just about any genre!

    Thank you again!
