This has been a busy year for writer/director Brent Huff. Huff is currently filming the pilot for the reality show 23 in San Francisco. Huff developed 23 with Lisa Ling, Steve McPherson and Sam Sokolow. The network behind 23 is Freeform, formerly known as ABC Family.
In 2014 Brent met incredible success with Chasing Beauty, the hard hitting documentary film that reveals the dark side of the modeling industry. After the film premiered on Logo TV, Chasing Beauty quickly became the #1 documentary and #1 independent film on iTunes. Chasing Beauty also enjoyed a successful run on Netflix. BuzzFeed named Chasing Beauty one of the top 10 fashion documentaries ever made.
Huff’s much anticipated documentary, It’s a Rockabilly World is scheduled to be released this fall. This is a film that explores the fascinating subculture of Rockabillies. Rockabilly is a global phenomenon that embraces some of the most colorful characters you’ll ever see as well as some of the finest music.
In 2013, Huff’s award winning documentary Behind the Orange Curtain was picked up for distribution by Filmbuff and enjoyed numerous successful screenings across the country. Behind the Orange Curtain illuminates the prescription drug epidemic that is killing so many of our youth today. The film has been called; powerful, important, eye-opening and frightening. Behind the Orange Curtain won the Metropolitan Film Festival in New York before selling out four screenings at the Newport Beach Film Festival.
In 2012, Huff’s short film Hero, won several film festivals including Brooklyn, Pan Pacific, Cottonwood, Family and Enfogue. Hero has outstanding performances and production value. Film Threat magazine said, “Despite the dark subject matter this film really lives in the realm of sweet and uplifting”.
Huff’s heart-wrenching short film Helpless was also very successful at festivals. Huff is very proud of this film which vividly describes Helpless as a state of mind where two people can see the same chilling event in very different ways. Helpless won “Best Overall Film” at the San Diego Indie Fest and the Jury Award for “Best Film” at the Riverside International Film Festival.
Huff’s feature film, Last Will was released in the spring of 2012. This courtroom drama was filmed on location in Kansas City and Acapulco, Mexico. The stellar cast includes Academy Award winner Tatum O’Neal, Academy Award nominee Tom Berenger, Peter Coyote and Emmy winner James Brolin. Last Will is based on a true story about a woman who stands up against a powerful family and fights for what is lawfully hers.
Huff’s film noir thriller Cat City was a huge triumph on the 2009 film festival circuit. Cat City enjoyed enthusiastic screenings at the Rhode Island, Stony Brook, Palm Springs, Hollywood, Newport Beach, Methodfest, St. Louis and Prince Edward Island International Film Festivals. Huff co-wrote and directed the provocative film. Cat City is a tale of corruption, greed, infidelity and…murder. The flawed protagonist in the film is played by the talented actress/singer Rebecca Pidgeon who is supported by Brian Dennehy and Julian Sands. Huff takes this cracked mirror narrative and gradually pieces it together. The film was picked up by Showtime.

Huff co-wrote and directed the inspirational film, Welcome to Paradise, which was released October 9, 2007. Welcome to Paradise has enjoyed huge success in the DVD market. The film stars Brian Dennehy, Crystal Bernard. Welcome to Paradise is the tale of a female evangelist in a small Midwest town who helps her faithful congregation overcome great obstacles. The Dove Foundation gave the film its highest rating and said, “This fantastic story is about love, faith, endurance and forgiveness.
In 2003, Huff directed 100 Mile Rule, a dark comedy that stars the talented Maria Bello, Jake Weber and Michael McKean. 100 Mile Rule made its world premiere at the Hollywood Film Festival. 100 Mile Rule was also a festival favorite at Fort Lauderdale, Taos Talking Pictures, Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, Nashville, Newport Beach and the USA Film Festival in Dallas. 100 Mile Rule was selected as the closing night film at the prestigious Cinequest Film Festival.
