Director Biography - Jason Yee-Shui

I am 46 years old and was born in Toronto, ON. My background is Jamaican and Chinese and some people have a hard time guessing my nationality when they first meet me. However, I don't mind that because it becomes an awesome conversation topic. I am a new filmmaker and enjoy sharing true life experiences of the people around me. Documentary style filmmaking has always been my first love and I look forward to telling more stories through this amazing genre.

Director Statement

My vision for Breaking Boarders was to tell a story about perseverance, parenting and passion. Although the backdrop of this film is based on the challenges of being a girl in a male dominated sport like skateboarding, it also tells a story about how to make difficult decisions in life. As a parent, you want to encourage your child to reach for the stars but sometimes in doing that you know they may get hurt in the process. The message I want to convey through this film is to trust the process. Success can only be achieved on the other side of difficult. We need to go through and overcome challenges in order to build up our endurance and keep trying. I hope you will enjoy this beautiful story through the eyes of a proud father.
