Breakfast in Beaufort: Journeys Through Time

This film introduces us to a group of older men who meet every Wednesday at Blackstone's cafe in Beaufort SC. They range in age from between 100 and to the high 80s. They have 980 years of experience between them. They have seen and experienced a lot during their long lives, they have lived through war (WW2, Korea and Vietnam) and huge social change. We listen to them tell their stories, from their early lives through to today. They share their observations and experiences during these momentous times.
They challenge us not to take things for granted, to listen to each other, to care for others, and most importantly to listen and learn.
They offer the lessons they learned as a result of their journeys through life.
We experience their drama, enthusiasm, success, tears, humor and wisdom.
Listen to your Elders, you just might learn something!

Director Statement

Older people are sometimes invisible or in the way for many people.
Our society seems to have forgotten the role of Elders. Sure we love our grandparents, but the others?
Our interviewees have 980 years of lived experience. They reflect on that experience, tell fascinating stories, reflect on their early days and how different things are now, but also offer wisdom and advice on how to live our lives.
