Break the Beat

In “Break The Beat” the singer is converted from a normal person who sees only chaos, to embodying chaos, and finally overcoming chaos.

The chaos is represented by TV static. It first covers his eyes like a “censored” sign. It then progresses over his body until he is fully covered by it. As he begins to speak the truth, the chaos turns to order. This is represented by the “armor” of the crown and death shroud that the band normally wears when performing. By the end of the video he no longer is afflicted by the static.

“Break the Beat” represents the singer/songwriter’s struggle while starting a new job at a company with a hostile work environment. He learns to overcome the hostile work world by helping another new co-worker facing the same struggles..

Shooting 1980’s style.
“Break the Beat” was shot using classic in camera FX such as recreating the glowing replicant eye effect from Ridley Scott’s film Blade Runner by using a 50% reflecting mirror in front of the lens with a small light 90 degrees off lens axis pointing into the mirror.

In addition, we used various optical flat coatings such as hair gel and Vaseline.

Various circular prismatic filters were rotated by hand in front of the lens to create ghostly duplication of the band members.

Those analog FX generated images were combined with digital chromakey elements and analog TV static and roll bars. The final aspect ratio is 4:3 to match pre-HD television aspect ratio.
