The Bowery Film Festival is determined to bring about a cinematic revolution unseen since the 70’s, striving to discover a new wave of renegade filmmakers creating raw, gritty, funny, and bombastic art in one of the most culturally rich and progressive NYC neighborhoods. Our mission is simple: to showcase works from filmmakers of all walks of life regardless of gender, race, age, creed, sexual orientation, or political affiliation and provide them with a platform to jumpstart their careers.

Located in one of the oldest thoroughfares in NYC, the Bowery is known by its singular namesake where world-renowned artists have lived, created and thrived…The Bowery also marked the eastern border of the "Five Points" slum popularized in the movie Gangs of New York. Home to Martin Scorsese, William Burroughs, and the American Punk Scene, the Bowery is one of the great highways of humanity, a highway of seething life, varied interests, fun, diverse culture, art, and rock-and-roll.

BFF hosts screenings and film parties throughout the year in hip and edgy venues on the Bowery in New York City with Q&A discussion with directors, producers, screenwriters, and actors and the opportunity to network with industry professionals at our networking events and opening and closing night parties. The winner of each quarterly screening will win over $2000 in prizes.

  • We were on a shoot so most of us were unable to attend our screening at the festival but several of our actors went and really enjoyed themselves, commenting on the great selections that our film JONES was paired with in The Female Gaze block. This block also opened the festival and was completely sold out. Another plus was that Honey Suckle Magazine attended the screening so we got a nice press mention. Will definitely be submitting for work to BFF!

The Bowery Film Festival is one of the most inventive, ground breaking, challenging festivals for independent and art house film. I was so impressed with all of the films screened over the four days- each curated wonderfully, and all championing both independent films and their makers, as well as female directors. Communication was perfect, as was the graciousness and inclusiveness of the festival founders and their team. These gents know how to throw a great party, and the whole festival felt celebratory and very special to be a part of. We took home the Best Experimental Film award to our delight and surprise, as all of the films were really outstanding, and of very high quality. Networking was so fabulous that I met a great DP who I included on a shoot the following week! I will be submitting my future films to this festival for sure, and am thrilled to be a part of the Bowery Film Fest family!

  • Awesome festival that has great parties and networking, super fast and easy communication and the perfect rock and roll vibe! So excited that our film, Tarab, which features a strong female narrative, female director, writer and producers, was awarded Best Feature Film! As female filmmakers, we felt totally supported and appreciated throughout the festival process!

  • So enjoyed being part of this festival and highly recommend to others. I especially appreciated the thoughtful approach to the programming of each block. Our film, Chronicles of a Bleep Year Old Woman, features a female narrative and a character going to beginner ballet class in NYC. We were paired with two other wonderful female filmmakers whose works featured dance in a block entitled "Make Your Move." Pairing of creative concepts and women making their moves in the world. Loved it. Thanks for including us!
